"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today, it's already tomorrow in Australia." - Charles Shultz

This quote inspired me in high school and guides me each day. I struggled for years wondering if I was “good enough” and questioned how my own actions could be contributing to my father’s addiction to drugs and alcohol. With the unwavering support of my high school social worker I learned the skills necessary to challenge the negative thinking and understand that my fathers challenges were not caused by anything I was doing, but by a disease that he ultimately lost his life to.

My love for social work and protecting others began in high school as a senior mentor for freshman students. I found who I was in the service of helping others. I had the privilege of helping younger students through some of their own dark moments and made sure they were getting the help they needed. As I continued to pursue this in college, I gained experience at a Head Start program outside of Boston, MA with vulnerable children and their families, in an elementary social work office on Cape Cod, MA teaching social skills, in a group home for adults living with mental health diagnoses also on Cape Cod, and finally at a community outpatient mental health clinic in Watertown, NY where I was trained and specialized in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Once I completed my degree, I became a military spouse and lived outside of an Army post in Upstate New York. I experienced first hand the difficulties and sense of pride that come with being part of the military culture. Eventually I witnessed the struggles that my husband went through as he transitioned from an Army Ranger Infantryman to a veteran who lacked a sense of brotherhood with fellow civilians. I understand the problems with navigating the stigma around mental health within the military and Tricare.

Two years later, I then wanted to focus in on another population that I hadn’t worked with yet- those living with eating disorders. I worked as a clinical therapist at a freestanding mental health hospital outside of Washington, DC with its very own eating disorder unit. I’ve listened to hundreds of stories filled with self-doubt, unworthiness, and feeling undeserving of a basic human need. This has helped me to gain the skills to tackle these diagnoses head-on with treatment options that set eating disorder therapists apart from those managing general mental health disorders.

After years of receiving my own education and training, I now have the privilege to assist people, just like you, in gaining control over symptoms that have maneuvered their way into your lives. It is my promise to you to provide you with therapy services rooted in empathy, compassion, trust, and encouragement.
